Le idee che stanno arrivando al team di Ubuntu per la prossima Google Summer of Code sono moltissime. Nulla è ancora deciso e gli aspiranti studenti continuano a inserire specifiche sulla pagina ufficiale e su Launchpad ma una proposta in particolare merita una certa attenzione: Easy Business Server. Stando alle specifiche fornite dal programmatore Soren Hansen il tool sarà una sorta di webmin potenziato che permetterà attraverso una GUI di configurare un server basato su Ubuntu anche a chi non ha mai utilizzato Linux.
Per la summer of code EasyBusinessServer avrà tra le priorità la configurazione/gestione semplificata di:
un Groupware, un Mail server, un Calendar server, un sistema di gestione dei contatti, un File server, un Print server, un server DHCP, DNS, un Firewall/Internet gateway, una VPN, oltre alla gestione degli utenti e al backup di file e configurazioni.
Insomma il tool definitivo per ogni sysadmin, non resta che sperare che il progetto venga scelto.

Beh la cacchiata è questa frase… Per il resto la trovo un’idea eccellente. Dai non puoi dirmi che webmin non ha nessuna utilità… E’ vero però che a usare webmin senza buone basi di Linux si possono fare grossi danni

16 mar 2007 - 10:57 - #4@Rizlo+ No non è una cacchiata come dici tu la frase. E’ una delle specifiche: “The target group is small businesses with little or no Linux experience”. Pensa a chi ha esperienza solo di amministrazione Windows, in questo caso Ubuntu Easy Business Server potrebbe essere una killer application.

20 mar 2007 - 13:19 - #5Hi! I’m Soren Hansen, the guy who proposed this (and will hopefully implement it). I just stumbled upon this article and thought I’d leave a comment. Sorry, I don’t speak much Italian, so I’ll write in English. Feel free to respond in Italian. I can usually decipher it. :-)
First of all, only the groupware part (mail, calendar, file and printer sharing) will be prioritised for Summer of Code, but I expect to implement the rest later too.
I’m not really familiar with SMEServer, but looking at their documentation it seems that one of the really big differences between UbuntuEasyBusinessServer and SMEServer is that they use a console-based configuration system, while I will be using a web based configuration system. It’s kind of like a router or a WiFi access point that you just plugin and then configure from your own computer via a web browser. You can see example screenshots on the wiki page.

A customizable, easy to configure and to use, fast and above all FREE Win…ehm Linux Home Server :P
